Assessments for Children & Young People
What Is a Sensory Profile?
Every child experiences the world differently. Some children notice every sound, texture, movement, smell and visual detail around them. Others seek out intense sensory experiences, constantly moving, touching, crashing, spinning or fidgeting.
A sensory profile helps us understand how your child's nervous system processes everyday sensory information.
Rather than focusing on what your child "can't do", a sensory profile identifies the sensory experiences that help them feel calm, regulated and able to thrive, as well as those that may lead to stress, overwhelm, or shutdown.
Having an understanding of your child's sensory needs can often explain behaviours that previously felt confusing, including:
-
Meltdowns after school
-
Difficulty with clothing, food, or personal care
-
Constant movement and fidgeting
-
Sensitivity to noise or busy environments
-
Challenges with sleep
-
Avoidance of certain activities
-
Emotional dysregulation
-
Difficulty concentrating
The sensory profile provides a clearer picture of what your child is communicating through their behaviour and offers practical strategies that can be used at home, school and in the community.

Why Choose a Sensory Profile?
Many families come to me feeling exhausted from trying different approaches without fully understanding why their child is struggling.
A sensory profile can help by:
✓ Identifying sensory triggers that contribute to distress or overwhelm
✓ Highlighting sensory experiences that support regulation and well-being
✓ Providing practical recommendations tailored to your child
✓ Helping parents, schools, and other professionals better understand your child's needs
✓ Supporting conversations around reasonable adjustments and accommodations
✓ Offering a neuro-affirming understanding of behaviour
For many families, the biggest benefit is finally having an explanation that makes sense.
Is This Assessment Right for My Child?
A sensory profile may be helpful if your child:
-
Is autistic, ADHD, or exploring a neurodivergent identity
-
Seems overwhelmed by everyday environments
-
Has frequent meltdowns, shutdowns or emotional outbursts
-
Experiences difficulties with clothing, food, hygiene or sleep
-
Constantly seeks movement, pressure or sensory input
-
Struggles with transitions or busy settings
-
Appears anxious, exhausted or dysregulated after sensory demands
The assessment is available nationwide and can provide valuable insights, whether or not your child has a diagnosis.
If you're wondering why certain situations feel harder for your child than they do for others, a sensory profile can provide answers and practical next steps.
